Dear Friends!! // 31/08/2010
Dear friends! A LOT is going on right now and a lot has been going on for the last six months
with Sturm und Drang. Still we haven't updated our website for a very long time, we haven't
been sure what we can/should fill you in on and maybe we wanted to wait until we had something
ready for you. Anyways now we really feel it's time to fill you in on everything: what has
happened, what is happening and what will happen next.
As you all know bassist Henrik Kurkiala was fired and in February we started a public search
for a new bassist. We received dozens of good-looking and sounding applications and in May we
received an application from a bassist that we all felt was the "right guy" and after two
auditions with him he was in the band. Sturm und Drang still wanted to wait with announcing
the news until we were totally sure that the collaboration worked. Good thing that we waited
because in July he was no longer in the band, it just didn't work out, no hard feelings.
Also we have been writing and rehearsing loads of songs and recorded almost 15 demo's for
the next album and in May we started our collaboration with the American producer that was
going to produce the album. We test-recorded two songs and absolutely loved working with him
but when we were done with the songs we all realized that the musical direction of both the
production and the songs (all our 15 demo's) was totally wrong. This was indeed a huge setback
since that's almost like having to start all over again.
Now the good news is that THE SEARCH IS OVER!! Sturm und Drang has found a new bassist (again),
but this time it's for good! We don't want to publish his identity yet but we can tell you
that he fits like a glove and he totally belongs in the band. We have known each other since
early childhood and played together for almost five years so we just know that this is the
right thing. So it seems like the right answer was right under our nose all the time:)
So a BIG thank you to all who have applied , it was a pleasure viewing all great applications!
Anyways, as of now we are working full time with rehearsing and writing new material as well
as reworking some of the old 15 songs according to our new musical direction. We are also
negotiating with a new producer to produce the album so as soon as we got some good songs
we're ready to hit the studio! Of course this has taken way longer than we wanted but now
it really feels like we have the engines running! And in the end we wanna make a record we
can be proud of and that all you guys can enjoy, cause we're doing this for you!
I´m sure you will all love the album (don't worry , it won't sound like Phil Collins;) ) !
So now we will keep updating this website every week for all our wonderful fans with news of
the progress. Our Facebook and Twitter accounts are under construction so soon you can follow
us there aswell! Eventually also a video diary and a studio blog will be added to this website
so stay tuned!

Searching For a New Bassist // 15/02/2010
The search for a new bassist has now officially begun. Sturm und Drang will do a public search for a bassist, so now anybody in the age 16-22 who wants to become Sturm und Drang´s permanent new bassist can apply.
So if you are a bassist in the age 16-22, you think you have what it takes and you want to become Sturm und Drang´s new bassist then send an application by E-mail to this adresse:

In your application please include these things:
-Personal Introduction (Who you are, name, age, where you live, work/study etc.)
-Your experiences as a musician (How long you´we been playing, bands you´we played with, gigs etc.)
-Your musical influences (What musicians/bands you like/admire/listen to)
-Why you would like to join Sturm und Drang
-A picture of yourself
-A video or audio clip where you are playing bass
or a link to a video or audio clip where you are playing bass
Sturm und Drang will view all of the applications and then the best bassists will be chosen for a live audition.

Sturm und Drang and Henrik Kurkiala part ways // 12/02/2010
Bassist Henrik Kurkiala is no longer a member of Sturm und Drang. During the last couple of years it has become
very clear that Henrik has had different priorities than the band. Due to his main priorities: his high school
studies and hobbie activites Henrik hasn´t been putting enough effort into the band, and as the band has grown
and become more successful the band cannot be just a hobby, it needs a hundred percent effort from the members,
therefore this split has become inevitable. When we approached Henrik and told him that we have to go our
separate ways he understood and agreed, saying that "It´s hard now, but in a year or so we will see that this
was a change for the better for both of us".
André Linman explains:
"When we ended the last tour we had been on tour for three years in a row and it just felt like we really needed
to settle down and think things over. It was becoming more and more evident that Henrik just didn´t belong in
this band nor in this business. His main priorities: studies and hobbies were constantly getting in the way of
the band and it just seemed like he wasn´t enjoying playing in the band, that he would rather live a "normal"
teenage life. He just wasn´t giving the band a hundred percent, and sometimes he would even miss out on
soundchecks and promotion job due to his other activities, but worst of all: a giant gap between Henrik and us
was created, and it just kept growing and growing until it almost felt like we were complete strangers. He would
be there on the shows and right after we would barely talk to each other and just go to our own hotel rooms. We
started this band when we were just twelve and thirteen years old, and back then it was just a hobby, but as we
have been playing more and more and growing as individuals and as musiscians me, Alexander, Jesper and Carl have
realized that this is what we want to do, this is what we want to dedicate our lives to, and Henrik just didn´t
feel the same. Even after the band had reached a professional level he still saw it as a hobby he would be doing
for now, and then later work with something else, it was like we were sitting in a boat that the four of us were
rowing, and Henrik was just riding along. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Henrik, this just wasn´t his
thing. Just like some people are doctors and others not, some people want to be musiscians and others something
else. It has been unfair to us, who want to dedicate all our time and effort to this band, and it has been just
as unfair to him because he did not want the same. That´s why this was the only way, and I´m glad that Henrik feels
the same way, that in the end this will be a change for the better" ''
Henrik Kurkiala will of course remain one of our best friends and we would like to thank Henrik for five fantastic
years of rock´n roll and wish him the very best in the future!
Now that these internal band issues have been solved Sturm und Drang is ready to move on and take the next step!
The search for a new bassist has begun and several demo songs have already been written and recorded for Sturm
und Drang´s third album, which will be released in 2010!

After spending OVER HALF A YEAR (27 weeks) in the the top 4 of Radio X3M´s Official Chart, Sturm und Drang´s "That´s the Way I Am" reached #1 last week. Tour Break // 03/08/2009
After years of consecutive touring Sturm und Drang will be taking a tour break after this summer. During the tour break the band will start working on their third album! The very last Sturm und Drang concert of this year will be at Särkänniemi in Tampere 29.08, during Radio 957:s summer closure party, headlined by Sturm und Drang.

Sturm und Drang will be playing in their hometown Vaasa for the first time in a long time on November 18th. The concert is a charity concert which takes place at Academill, Vaasa and all the money will go to the Red Cross. The tickets are ONLY available for pre-purchase, which means you cannot purchase tickets at the concert. Tickets are available at Studio Ticket, Vaasa. Vammala Show Cancelled // 11/10/2008
Sturm und Drang & Crew are very sorry to announce that today´s (11.10.08) show in Vammala has been cancelled due to drummer Calle Fahlund´s serious food poisoning which he got yesterday. Cancelling a show is nothing we would do in the first place but Calle simply can´t get out of bed. We all hope that he will recover soon and on behalf of all of us we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by these last minute news.

Sturm und Drang Goes to Germany! // 05/10/2008
This wednesday, October 8th Sturm und Drang will be playing in Berlin, Germany at the Helsinki in Berlin festival. The festival is a three day long event which includes many other finnish appearances aswell, for example Lordi. Sturm und Drang will be playing as headlining act on wednesday at midnight (00.00) at Club 23 Kulturbrauerei. So for all of you german fans and people: Don´t miss it! Sturm und Drang Flies to Japan! // 20/05/2008
Next week Sturm und Drang will play their first ever live show in Tokyo, Japan! The show will take place on Thursday, May 29 at the legendary Liquidroom. The band welcomes all the Japanese fans and everyone visiting the city to join the heavy metal party!
New Album in the Making and New Single from Learning to Rock! // 26/03/2008
Sturm und Drang are on a good way of making their second album. Recordings in the studio have been going on for about a month and songwriters André Linman and Patrick Linman have been writing new material in Halmstad, Sweden together with M.P Persson. So far three whole songs have been recorded and the band is very satisfied! As it looks now the next album will be heavier, more technical and harder but still with even more catchy melodies and melodic influences.
Sturm und Drang are very exited about the release of the next album which will be in the beginning of autumn this year. Until then we will release a single from the forthcoming album sometime in summer and also another single from the Learning to Rock album featuring a new video!

Newcomer of the Year at Emma Gaala! // 09/03/2008
We are very happy to announce that Sturm und Drang have won the award for newcomer of the year at Emma Gaala yesterday 8.3 in Helsinki! Emma Gaala, which Sturm und Drang also had the honor to open with their song "Rising Son" was followed up by a very succesfull gig in Sibeliushalli, Lahti only one and a half hour later!

European Tour Postponed // 06/02/2008
Folks, we have a piece of news that will disappoint many of you, and this is definitely not something we would tell with smiles on our faces. Unfortunately the Central European tour scheduled to take place on March 17-29 has been postponed in its entirety. We would've so much wanted to complete this leg of our album tour, but it is just impossible, as we will have to concentrate on what's happening here in Finland, including the preparation and songwriting for our upcoming follow-up album. Sturm und Drang will try to make their way to Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland as soon as it's possible. Those who already have bought their tickets, please contact your local ticketing company for refunds.
Platinum Record awarded in Finland // 29/01/2008
The debut album "Learning To Rock" has achieved platinum status in Finland. That's just awesome! The band wants to give a big thank you to all the people who've made it possible, and to everyone who have bought the record. The feeling is indescribable!

Sturm und Drang are very happy to confirm that they will be going across Europe playing heavy metal for the second time! However this will be the first own europe tour of Sturm und Drang so we are extra exited!

After three weeks of playing gigs with Apocalyptica all over Europe the tour has ended and Sturm und Drang were happy to be back in Finland! Looking back we can say that the tour was a complete success and very much fun! Sturm und Drang would like to thank Apocalyptica & crew for this great opportunity and the great time we had!

Learning To Rock - International Edition 31.10.2007 // 30/10/2007
New material from Sturm und Drang!
Sturm und Drang, the sensation from Vaasa delights their Finnish friends on Halloween. A new version of SuD’s Learning to Rock-album, featuring material previously available only in Germany, is due for release on 31.10.
The debut album’s international release contains, in addition to the original 10 songs, a new version of the song Forever, where Udo Dirkschneider (Accept, U.D.O.) accompanies the SuD-vocalist André Linman. Included are also the boys’ vision of their greatest inspiration Judas Priest’s song Breaking the Law, that SuD has been playing quite a lot at their shows, and an acoustic version of the band’s breakthrough hit Rising Son. Rising Son and Indian –videos directed by Marko Mäkilaakso (Century Films) are also included on the album. New band photos were taken by Jere Hietala.
The band is currently touring Europe with Apocalyptica. On the 3-week tour they’ll go to Germany, Poland, Czech, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.
Sturm und Drang debut album will be released in Japan November 21st. Sony BMG Japan will release the album in the land of the rising sun. Before this Learning to Rock has been released by HMC – Helsinki Music Company in Scandinavia and by GUN Records in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
STURM & DRANG – Successful Tour Start and Berlin Show Live Online TODAY! // 29/10/2007
The STURM & DRANG boys laid down a blistering first show of their tour as the support act for Apocalyptica in the sold-out “Grosse Freiheit” hall in Hamburg. They tread the boards with songs from their debut album, “Learning To Rock”. With “Broken”, the irresistible heavy rock track “Rising Son”, metal ballad “Indian” and the gripping anthem “Learning To Rock”, they had the audience on their feet and sweating. Their brilliant cover version of Iron Maiden’s classic “Fear Of The Dark” topped off the set.

Now we can confirm that this October Sturm und Drang will head out on A European Tour together with finnish band Apocalyptica! The tour will start in Hamburg, Germany on October the 21st and it will end in Rome, Italy on November the 11th. Be sure to check out all tour dates on the gigs section!!

Guys in Sturm und Drang experienced the moment of their lives last Saturday. The band had the honour of playing Breaking The Law with one of their biggest idols: KK Downing. The metal legend was on holiday in Finland and he came to Salo to meet the guys in Vrock, where he then decided to play BTL with them! It was a moment of history, too - it was the first time ever when KK played the song with some other band than Judas Priest – the band which he formed already in 1968. Boy, where we honoured and excited! You can soon see pics of the meet & greet with the living legend, as well as pics from the historical moment when KK joined us in the stage (in the Media -section)!

Back in Finland // 05/08/2007
Now Sturm und Drang are back in Finland after a great gig at Wacken Open Air, Germany and yesterday they also had a gig at Kokkolarock Festival which included a surprise guest appearance by Sturm und Drang´s manager: André´s dad, Patrick Linman, joining them on stage singing Dio´s Holy Diver!
So thank you all for coming to the gigs and don´t miss the remaining summer festivals!

Germany Calling! // 01/08/2007
Sturm und Drang has made a new version of Forever with Udo Dirkschneider (U.D.O., Accept). Udo saw SuD’s gig in Sweden Rock earlier this summer and he asked the guys if they have interest to do something together. Well, of course they wanted - who would say no to living legend! SuD has also recorded Judas Priest’s Breaking The Law. Both songs will be released only in Germany, bur later in the autumn you might be able to listen them from the radio else where, too!
This weekend Sturm und Drang will travel to Germany where they play a show case gig in world’s biggest metal festival Wacken Open Air. But don’t worry, they’ll be back on Saturday and play a gig in Kokkola Rock festival – so see you guys over there!
Release Dates for Germany and Gig at Wacken Open Air Confirmed! // 29/07/2007
Now Sturm und Drang can announce that their single "Rising Son" will be released in Germany 3.8 and that the whole album "Learning to Rock" will be released in Germany 24.8. The German album will also contain several bonus tracks including an exclusive version of the song "Forever" together with Accept singer Udo Dirkschneider!
Also the same day as the single is released, 3.8, Sturm und Drang will have a gig at Wacken Open Air in Germany!

Tour in Autumn Confirmed! // 24/07/2007
A tour in Finland during weekends in September and October, mainly at Amarillo in different cities has been confirmed! Hopefully there will be some more touring in the near future also in the rest of Europe!

Finnish Broadcasting Company's (Yleisradio) TV2 Ajankohtainen Kakkonen followed the life in camp Sturm und Drang for a few days - you can see the result in Finland @ TV2 next Tuesday 9 PM (10.7) and on next Wednesday 2.50 PM, and worldwide @ TV Finland next Tuesday 9.20 PM CET and on next Wednesday 2.35 PM CET. The waiting is finally over: Sturm und Drang´s debut album "Learning to Rock" was released yesterday in Finland and to celebrate the release three gigs were heald: Two at Tavastia, Helsinki on the release day and one at Club 25, Vaasa today. Sturm und Drang would like to thank all of the people who came to the gigs and made it two evenings to be remembered and also all of those who have bought the album! We hope that you enjoyed the gigs and that you like the album! Also some pictures from Sturm und Drang´s gig at NRJ in the Park in Tampere have been added to the picture gallery and pics from the release gigs will soon be there too! Be sure to check it out!

Sturm und Drang signed a record deal in Europe! // 29/05/2007
The band has signed a Europe-wide (excl. Scandinavia) record contract with GUN-Records. GUN-Records is a Germany-based record company home for artists like Bullet For My Valentine, Within Temptation, Finnish Lovex and the company also contributed to HIM’s world wide success in 2000.
HMC – Helsinki Music Company will release Sturm und Drang’s debut album Learning To Rock in Finland May 30 and rest of the Scandinavia June 7. GUN-Records will release the album in Europe this coming fall.
GUN-Records CEO Wolfgang Funk comments the SuD record deal:
"We all here at GUN-Records feel that this young band could bring Europe a `New Wave of Heavy Metal`, the same way HIM did a few years back in Gothic Rock! We are very excited about this new singning and ready to conquer Europe by Sturm und Drang!"

Only a week to the release of Learning To Rock - which means that you can see and hear a lot of Sturm und Drang in the near future!
Learning To Rock is Album of the Week both in YleX and in Radio X3M next week - you can hear SuD's comments about the album and songs every day in both channels!
Nelonen will show SuD's NRJ In The Park -gig in Tampere from last weekend this Saturday at 2.30 PM and next Friday June 1st at 2.05 PM. This Sunday you can see a reportage of Sturm und Drang on FST5 Närbild at 7.30 PM.
Alex and Jeppe will visit SubTV's Subbari next Monday morning at 8 AM and in the same evening the guys meet legendary Jone Nikula in Radio Rock's studio at 6 PM. And make sure you get a copy of Suosikki and Tuhma Magazines next week...!

A new gig at Ruisrock festival in Turku, Finland has been confirmed! Sturm und Drang will play the second day of the festival on saturday along with many great bands for example In Flames, Hanoi Rocks and Sonata Arctica. More info can be found in the gigs section!

The title, tracklist and cover art of Sturm und Drang´s upcoming album which will be released in Finland on May the 30th and June the 6th in Scandinavia has been revealed! The album is called "Learning to Rock" and it contains 10 songs.
